9:30 AM National Tap Dance Day Flash Mob Come out and tap with us in celebration of National Tap Dance Day! Help us bring this great American art form to the Plaza de Panama in Balboa Park.

National Tap Dance Day is every May the 25th and is a day designated by a bill in Congress to celebrate the art of tap dancing. The date was chosen out of honor and respect for the late Bill "Bojangles" Robinson whose birthday was also on the same day.

Balboa Park gets very crowded on the weekends and this is a holiday weekend. Arrive early to avoid traffic/parking delays.The Recital Hall will be open by 9:00am for any of you wanting to arrive early. Links to Balboa Park parking and tram information. CLICK HERE

10:00 AM Czech That Film Festival The annual Czech film festival titled Czech That Film has been established in 2012. Currently, it is the largest Czech cultural event in the United States. It is a film festival of best recent Czech films held throughout the United States every year, with a range of screenings and discussion with cast and crew. The four-month-long festival keeps growing every year. Its sixth edition will reach 15 major US and Canadian cities (Los Angeles, San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Austin, Washington, Denver, Dallas, Atlanta, New York City, Little Rock, Portland, Minneapolis, Chicago, San Diego, Seattle, Toronto). Films to be screened:

The movie trilogy Garden Store consists of three separate films taking place against the backdrop of the most dramatic periods of the last century. It tells the story of three families: a family of an air radio operator, a family of a hair salon owner, and a family of a garden store owner.

All three movies will be introduced by the Oscar-nominated director Jan Hrebejk, and there will be a moderated discussion following the second movie. All movies are in Czech with English subtitles.

1:30 PM - Deserter (Followed by a discussion with the Oscar-nominated director Jan Hrebejk)
4:30 PM - Suitor (Followed by announcement of the silent auction winners and opportunities for pictures and authographs)

A silent auction benefiting The Czech School San Diego will be held during the day. Items will include autographed DVDs of Jan Hrebejk's movies, experience packages, and other items.

11:00 AM Lebanese Food Festival Join us for a memorable weekend of fun, food and heritage as we celebrate our 16th Annual Lebanese Food Festival. Guests will feast on traditional Lebanese Food like Saj Zaatar and Cheese, Tabbouleh, Hummus, Stuffed Grape Leaves, Falafel, Beef Shawerma, Chicken Kabob, and a wide assortment of Gourmet Sweets. Along with the exquisite food, there will be Evening Live Music & Dancing, Folkloric Performances throughout the day, A variety of Booth with Lebanese Specialties, Beer & Wine Garden, Hookah Bar, Carnival Rides, Cooking Demonstration and a Raffle Grand Prize a 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLA250. 4:30 PM Oddissi Dance Benefit Concert Rudraprasad Swain and two additional internationally recognized dancers and dance teachers, Shalini and Shibani Patnaik, will be the featured artists at the Annual Recital of the CWM Odissi Dance School.

In support of the victims of Cyclone Fani, which severely battered northeastern India and Bangladesh, this event will be a benefit concert. The damage from the cyclone has been especially catastrophic in the state of Odisha, the home of Odissi.

The recital will be a family program, with performances from all students. Students will perform items they have learned at the school under the guidance of the Odissi Dance School's dance master, Rudraprasad Swain.

Admission/Cost: FREE but donations for cyclone victims will be gratefully accepted.

Ingrid Bergman is the mysterious old flame who reignites his life. Cinema Under the Stars is an intimate outdoor movie theater, located directly behind Tops Salon in Mission Hills. Admission is $17 for members, $18 at the box office, or $20 online (pay with cash or check only). Online reservations begin on Wednesday at 9:00 AM The box office opens at 6:00:00 PM on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Popcorn, candy and assorted hot and cold drinks sell for $2 each and a classic cartoon is screened before most films. Heaters and blankets are provided to keep you warm.
