This year GIS will focus on speakers from various sponsors that focus on impacting the world. Whether it is an innovative technology, a startup that is disrupting the market, or social entrepreneurs who are coming up with new ways to tackle problems faced by society, it is bound to be an extremely interesting event.

In addition to the various workshops and speakers, we will also host our 2nd Annual Case Study Competition at the conference, courtesy of Triton Consulting Group. It provides an opportunity for developing connections between UC San Diego and local Native communities in our area.

San Diego County is home to the largest number of Native American reservations in the country and we are excited about this opportunity for UC San Diego to once again host this honorable event, which highlights the strong historical traditions that are alive and well in Native American tribal communities. Our powwow will include key elements, such as cultural songs and dances, beautiful handmade regalia, recognition of distinguished tribal members, and community outreach. There will be plenty of native foods, artwork, jewelry and more. This is a public event, all are welcome and everyone is encouraged to attend.

Welcome to Uncle Joe's Donuts! Meet the owner, Ming, who fled to the United States from the Khmer Rouge (Cambodian Civil War) as a teenager. She has big dreams to someday own a restaurant, but what happens when she meets some troubled neighborhood youths? Jake is trying to support his family after his older brother cuts town and leaves him to deal with his old gang. Hope just wants to live her dreams as a dancer, but her parents aren't so supportive. Carrie appears to be strong and confident, but she's still finding herself in some aspects. These four may be broken and lost as individuals, but together they learn about getting second chances and what it means to be a community. Join us as we explore their contemporary backgrounds of being Cambodian Americans!

Along with the play, we will also have fun dance pieces performed by our own CSA members and a guest performance by Khmer Dance Troupe!
