7:30 PM Music: Godfather of Latin Jazz A salute to Dizzy Gillespie and Chano Pozo featuring Jon Faddis.

In 1947, jazz master Dizzy Gillespie invited Cuban conguero Chano Pozo to participate in the Carnegie Hall concert (and subsequent European tour) that launched the modern Latin Jazz movement worldwide. Our program celebrates that key collaboration and features some of today's most exciting jazz musicians.

Our special guests are jazz trumpeter Jon Faddis, tenor saxophonist Justo Almario and the KSDS Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Gilbert Castellanos!

The San Diego Symphony does not appear as part of this program.

7:30 PM Book Signing: Crux: A Cross-Border Memoir Acclaimed journalist Jean Guerrero's "Crux: A Cross-Border Memoir" is a beautiful and haunting narrative about a daughter's quest to understand her charismatic, troubled and elusive father, a self-mythologizing Mexican immigrant who travels across continents - and across the borders between imagination and reality; and spirituality and insanity - fleeing real and invented persecutors. Guerrero magically conjures the complex relationships that define families and legacy, but also offers a timely and complex exploration of immigration and borders through a family history that crosses back and forth between Mexico and the United States.
