5:30 PM Wine & Lecture: Kumeyaay Cosmology Long before Europeans arrived in the San Diego and Coronado area, Kumeyaay were studying the stars. This star knowledge, "Maay Uuyow," encompasses a cosmological belief that once affected every aspect of Kumeyaay life.

Mr. Michael Connolly Miskwish, a Kumeyaay historian and author, will share with us a small part of the vast knowledge rooted in the land and sky of our region.

6:30 PM Film: Hidden Figures Hidden Figures (2016, PG. 127 min.) takes place in the midst of the space race between the United States and Russia. The film highlights the true story of how a team of female African-American mathematicians played a crucial role in calculating the successful launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit.

Movie special features begin at 5:30 PM. The film begins at 6 PM. A post-film discussion will take place after the screening.

This movie is made possible in part by the Carlsbad Library and Arts Foundation's Robert H. Gartner Cultural Endowment Fund.
