10:00 AM 31st Annual Balboa Park Pow Wow The San Diego American Indian Health Center's (SDAIHC) Annual Balboa Park Pow Wow will take place on the southwest corner of Park Boulevard and Presidents Way. This year is SDAIHC's 40th Anniversary, which shares a story of strength and resilience within the local Native American population that will also be recognized at the 2019 Balboa Park Pow Wow.

The Pow Wow is a traditional and cultural event that showcases the heritage of American Indians. For more than 30 years, the American Indian community throughout the San Diego area has celebrated their traditions by gathering at the Balboa Park Pow Wow. The cultural event features traditional drum groups and inter-Tribal dancing. Participants of all ages will be present from various American Indian Tribes, bands and communities proudly wearing beautiful regalia. In recognition that we are all guests of San Diego's "first people," Kumeyaay singers will open the event both days with their traditional Birds Songs. Gourd Dancing will follow and then the Grand Entry, which opens a day of Inter-Tribal Dancing. Vendors will be selling handmade jewelry, pottery, basketry, clothing and a variety of other crafts and goods. Food vendors will also be selling a variety of delectable items, including fry bread and Indian tacos.

10:30 AM Gator by the Bay Festival Presented by the nonprofit Bon Temps Social Club of San Diego, the four-day, family-friendly cultural celebration will feature more than 100 live musical acts and special performances on seven stages, plus dance floors filled with happy dancers. Authentic Cajun, Creole and Southern cuisine is another highlight of the festival— including 10,000 pounds of live crawfish trucked in fresh from Opelousas, Louisiana, grilled oysters, gumbo, jambalaya, crawfish etouffee, red beans and rice, crab cakes, alligator, frog legs, fried okra, lobster mac & cheese, po'boys and beignets. Special family fun activities include costumed Mardi Gras parades, outrageous hat-making with the Rad Hatter and colorful face painting.

11:00 AM North Park Festival Of Arts North Park Main Street announces this year's San Diego County Credit Union (SDCCU) Festival of Arts in North Park, a free festival that celebrates artistic talent, from unconventional street art to live musical talent.

The festival will be held on Saturday, May 11 from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM, offering a whole day of entertaining experiences that are free and highlight the local talents of North Park.

For those looking for adult libations, cocktails and craft beer will be featured in the festival's Craft Beer Block. Entry is free for those 21 and over. Attendees are invited to enjoy full 12 ounce pours of their favorite beer for purchase or enjoy a little bit of everything and buy a wrist band to sample and sip from the region's best brewers. All of this is in one place, plus free entertainment and the ever-popular Craft Beer Karaoke. The new Craft Beer Block is a sure crowd pleaser!

There is something for everyone, including fun for the kids. New this year, Artelexia is hosting the "Make & Create" area that will provide the opportunity to participate in interactive activities designed to stimulate, inspire imaginations and create masterpieces. Local dance troupes will perform throughout the day; face painters, crafters and family-friendly snacks will be available.

3:00 PM Music: Around the World The free Discovery Concert Series at the Rancho Bernardo Branch Library presents Around the World. The program features musicians from the City Heights Music School, Palomar/YPO Percussion Ensemble, and Mariachi Victoria de San Diego under the direction of Mario Eguia and Victoria Eicher. Performing on a variety of folk and classical instruments (including the guitarron, accordion, violin, and vihuela) musicians of all ages will guide the audience through an audible tour of musical genres! The Discovery series of concerts at the library serves to educate the public about various music forms and to expand the opportunity for local musicians to perform and provide insights to their music. There is no charge for this performance and all ages are welcome. The concert will be in the second floor community room at the library.
