Japanese Friendship Garden
|
The vision of the Japanese Friendship Garden Society of San Diego is to be a premiere nonprofit organization that will build friendships by demonstrating the universal appeal of Japanese aesthetic sensibilities and views of nature. The Garden is a place of contemplation for visitors where Japanese garden concepts and symbolism have been adapted to the climate and topography of San Diego. Japanese garden concepts and symbolism have been adapted to the climate and topography of San Diego, making for a serene place of contemplation for visitors.
The meditative atmosphere of the Japanese Friendship Garden is the perfect backdrop to showcase demonstrations of Japanese arts such as the tea ceremony, Ikebana, and koto music. It is a place of cultural wonder and curiosity with an ever changing landscape which makes the Garden conducive to learning.

To thank residents of San Diego County, the Japanese Friendship Garden participates in Balboa Park's Resident Free Tuesday. On the third Tuesday every month, free admission is offered to all San Diego County residents and active duty military and their families.
All guests must show one of the following forms of ID upon entering to prove residency: CA Driver's license, military ID, utility bill, San Diego Library Card or student ID.
