Intercambio: A Conversation on the Cross-border Economy

Southwestern College Performing Arts Center , 900 Otay Lakes Road , Chula Vista

At the San Ysidro Port of Entry—the busiest border crossing in the nation—wait times have skyrocketed, impacting everything from the shipping routes of multinational manufacturing industries to the daily commutes of workers who cross the border each day.

Ongoing political focus on border security and safety has hampered the efficiency with which goods and services can flow between the two nations—a setback that has had ripple effects on the economies of either side of the border. Yet for many in San Diego, the full extent of this economic and cultural partnership remains relatively unknown.

KPBS Investigative Border Reporter Gustavo Solis will discuss this relationship with a panel of experts, who will be taking audience questions. Guests include:
• Paola Avila, Chief of Staff for Mayor Todd Gloria
• Ernesto Bravo, West Division President of Tecma
• Denice Garcia, Chief of Staff for San Diego County Supervisor Nora Vargas
• Kurt Honold, Secretary of Economy and Innovation Baja California
• Joe Smith, Senior Vice President of CBRE: Global Commercial Real Estate Services

A catered reception will follow the event.

Doors open at 6:30 pm and the event begins at 7:00 pm promptly.
