The City of San Marcos is gearing up for its 8th Annual Carnival of Cultures. This free outdoor event will feature an international carnival where representatives from different cultures will educate and entertain people of all ages. Attendees will have the opportunity to celebrate the unique multi-ethnic diversity of San Marcos and neighboring communities while enjoying international entertainment, food, and arts and crafts. There will also be plenty of free hands-on activities.

11:00 AM - 06:00 PM ArtWalk 2010
Known fondly as the largest fine art festival in southern California, Mission Federal ArtWalk is a two-day event held from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on April 24 and 25, 2010 celebrating original works of art. In its 26th year, the fine arts festival has been counted upon by artists and art lovers alike, to bring together all facets of the arts in San Diego and promote the joy and investment in owning original artwork.

The fine art festival features more than 300 artists from all over the United States, as well as Mexico, who display their original art for exhibit and sale. What makes Mission Federal ArtWalk unique is the opportunity to engage directly with fine artists who are respected in their field. A wide array of mediums will be on display, including paintings, sculpture, glasswork, photography, music, dance and entertainment. There is also a special area for kids and families known as KidsWalk, which provides free and interactive creative arts activities including painting, performing arts, music and more.

02:00 PM House of Mexico: Lawn Program
The yearly lawn program hosted by the House of Mexico is dedicated to the children in honor of “Dia de los Ninos” (Day of the Children). In Mexico, Dia de los Ninos is celebrated on April 30th. The entertainment varies from Mariachi musicians to folklorico dance groups representing different regions of Mexico.Food and beverages are sold at this event and vary from tostadas to carne asada to enchiladas. Beverages sold are traditional drinks such as horchata, a rice drink; Jamaica which is made from the bibiscus flowers.
