4:30 PM Art: Creativity and Joy The Japanese Friendship Garden is excited to introduce the work of Jean Shen, a master Chinese brush painter, and her students. Ink brush painting was born during the Tang Dynasty in China and developed rapidly in the Son Dynasty. It arrived in Japan during the Kamakura period. Artists express their concepts of nature and emotion through brush painting. The artists express their joy, rhythm, and vitality on rice paper. The exhibit captures the creativity and joy of the garden through its illustration of flowers, birds, and koi. Jean's work will also be accompanied with her students' own original work that share the sense of joyfulness Jean teaches.

8:00 PM Ballet: The Firebird "The Firebird" ballet is a Russian tale of love and magic. The story takes place in an enchanted garden deep in the forest. Prince Ivan is searching for a beloved princess who has been captured by the evil magician, Kaschei. The Firebird uses her special powers to help Prince Ivan and teaches him how the power of love overcomes evil.
