9:00 AM 22nd Guelaguetza Celebration The Department of Anthropology at California State University San Marcos and the Coalition of Indigenous Communities of Oaxaca are proud to announce the 22nd annual event with traditional Oaxacan dancers, food, art, vendors, and cultural exhibits. This year's Guelaguetza will also offer many unique experiences such as a palm-weaving demonstration, a backstrap loom weaving demonstration, a mask-making workshop for children, and an alebrije (colorful, imaginary creatures) painting session.

As with the traditional Guelaguetza that takes place in Oaxaca, Mexico, this celebration will feature live dances and music from the eight regions of Oaxaca, such as the Danza de Flor de Piña (Pineapple flower dance) and La Danza de los Diablos (the little devil's dance). Additionally, vendors from across California and Oaxaca will converge to offer a wide variety of traditional Oaxacan foods, clothing, arts and crafts. Event proceeds will benefit community-based projects that aim to improve the health and well being of Mexican indigenous communities in Southern California and Oaxaca.

2:00 PM Stage: Quartet Lifelong friends Wilf and Reggie, together with former colleague, Cissy, are residents of Beecham House, a home for retired opera singers. Every year on Giuseppe Verdi's birthday, the residents unite to give a concert to raise funds for their home. But when Jean Horton, a former Grande Dame of the opera who has fallen on hard times, who also happens to be Reggie's ex-wife and the fourth and most celebrated member of their former quartet, unexpectedly moves into the home, the plans for this year's concert begin to unravel. As old grudges threaten to undermine past glories and theatrical temperaments wreak havoc with the rehearsal schedule, it becomes apparent that having four of the finest singers in English operatic history under one roof is no guarantee that the show will go on. This is a wickedly comic play - touching and poignant - about art, aging and how the human spirit remains undimmed.
