11:00 AM 33rd Annual Philippine Cultural Arts Festival The SAMAHAN Filipino American Performance Arts and Education Center will hold its 33rd Philippine Cultural Arts Festival in Balboa Park.

A family-oriented event focused on cultural heritage, entertainment and networking, this festival appeals to the whole family and allows San Diego locals as well as tourists the opportunity to learn about Philippine culture and performing arts through dances and music.

The two-day festival will feature continuous entertainment. The event will showcase traditional performing arts including colorful folk dances from different regions of the Philippines, folk songs, Rondalla, Angklung (bamboo percussion instrument) and Kulintang (gong) music of Southern Philippines. Presentations of mainstream entertainment such as rap, reggae, contemporary dances and vocals, and ethnic dances by invited Asian and Pacific Islander performers will be featured.

Balboa Park is a major hub for culture and tourism in San Diego, attracting thousands of visitors each weekend with peaks during the summer season. This is a great opportunity for local artists to present their talents and businesses to sell their goods in the prime location of Balboa Park. Event vendors are invited to rent booths or spaces for canopies to sell their uniquely designed T-shirts, costume jewelry, and various products and services. Delicious, popular Filipino food prepared at local Filipino restaurants will be sold at food booths.

4:00 PM Music: Ziggy Marley Ziggy Marley, son of immortal reggae legend Bob Marley, is the featured performer of todays Del Mar Summer Concert Series and will take the stage after the opening acts, Common Sense & Julian Marley. Born in Trench Town, Jamaica, Ziggy was surrounded by the sights and sounds of his father during his studio sessions.
All performances will take place in the seaside concert area, located at the west end of the grandstand. Performances begin shortly after the last race of the day. All concerts are 18 and up and free with the purchase of standard $6 racetrack admission. Returning this summer is the opportunity for concertgoers to upgrade their concert experience in the South Terrace, a premium view and VIP section. For just $50, this exclusive ticket includes an enhanced view with seating, private restrooms and private cash bar.

From good luck water elfs (Angles Azuless) to the elusive Baja desert tiger (El Tigre Volador), this magical history of our region is almost lost. Join us August 11th 2018 as we celebrate this rich tradition through artist Ita's upcycled art of Bajabrijes and a sneak peek of the film "Chicana Stardust". There will also be an exclusive live performance by the bi-national hip-hop group Tulengua, and a selection of food and drinks from both sides of the border. 8:00 PM Film: Loving Vincent Loving Vincent is a 2017 experimental animated biographical drama film about the life of painter Vincent van Gogh, and in particular, the circumstances of his death. It is the first fully painted animated feature film. Grab a picnic, blanket or low back chair and spend an evening underneath the stars with friends, family and neighbors. Movies begin after sunset.
