12:00 PM Mortadella Day All hail Mortadella Day! Celebrating 2000 years of meat-centric history, Officine Buona Forchetta is hosting a traditional Mortadella Day festival Sunday, July 23. Made of lean pork speckled with lumps of lard, Mortadella Day draws thousands each year to the city of Bologna, Italy to sample this storied charcuterie. Seeking to replicate the festival for adventurous foodies, co-owners Mario Cassineri and Matteo Cattaneo are whipping up an exclusive menu featuring the finely sliced specialty on all manner of Italian fare. Imported from the famed samulerie Ferrarini in Casatenovo, Italy, the 120-lb mortadella will be on display in the center of the restaurant, with busy capocuoco's and pizzaiolo's slicing away as guests place their order. Dishes include a focaccia topped with mortadella, provolone, and tomatoes, ravioli with mozzarella and ground mortadella, and a specialty pizza topped with mortadella. In the spirit of community, Officine Buona Forchetta will be donating $2 of every dish sold on Thursday, July 20 to Loma Portal Elementary School.

2:00 PM Stage: West Side Story West Side Story is one of the most memorable musicals and greatest love stories of all time. The score by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim, his Broadway debut, is widely regarded as one of the best ever written with timeless pieces such as "Maria," "America," "Tonight," "I Feel Pretty" and countless others. Set in the Upper West Side of New York in the mid-1950s, the world's greatest love story takes to the streets and explores the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks, two teenage street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds. This landmark Broadway musical is one of the theatre's finest accomplishments.

2:00 PM Book Signing: Private Universe Private Universe is a coming of age novel with a surreal twist, a travelogue, a philosophical exploration of the purpose of life, and an adventure story, with pieces of art as guideposts. Seventeen-year-old Vega Stern meets a seductive outcast and gets sucked into psychedelic, then hard drugs in 1970s Germany. It is the beginning of her psychedelic roller coaster ride through ecstatic highs to hitting rock bottom painfully severs the ties to her first love to escape her dangerous drug habit, and travels through Greece and Israel in search of great art and true meaning, not knowing that her drug use resulted in long lasting consequences. Private Universe is a kaleidoscope of vivid descriptions and unusual travel adventures, but it is primarily a story of survival and self-invention.

4:00 PM Athenaeum Summer Festival With Gustavo Romero Pianist Gustavo Romero presents a four-part concert series celebrating composer Enrique Granados. This celebrated composer is recognized as one of the most important Spanish composers for the piano. The programs will coincide with the 150th anniversary of his birth. In celebration of this anniversary, Romero will present the Granados-Goyescas based on Goya paintings and other solo works by Granados, as well as other works inspired by paintings such as the Mussorgsky-Pictures at an Exhibition.
