All Day Festa do Espírito Santo The Festa do Espírito Santo is an ethnic religious celebration dating back to the time when the first families settled here in 1884, and was formally organized in 1910.

Today, as it has been since 1922, the Chapel next door to the UPSES Hall is used to house the Crown of the Holy Spirit during the Festa. On Pentecost Sunday devotees of the Holy Spirit visit the Chapel to pray and offer a donation of monies or Portuguese sweet breads (which are sold to raise funds) to assure the continuation of this unique ethnic and religious celebration.

Since 1922, our Portuguese colony here has made a procession (now a full parade) from our UPSES Hall chapel (i.e. "capela") with our annual Queen Saint Isabel personage holding our community's Crown of the Holy Spirit up to St. Agnes Church for a celebratory Mass followed by another procession/parade back down to our Hall afterward. Our chapel was built especially to hold our Holy Spirit Crowns during the Festa do Espírito Santo.

10:00 AM San Luis Rey Inter-Tribal Powwow Join the San Luis Rey Band of Luiseño Mission Indians for the Annual Inter-Tribal Powwow with arts and craft booths, food, dancers, drums, an opportunity drawing and contest dancing.

Presented free to the public by the San Luis Rey Mission Indian Foundation, the 23rd Annual Inter-Tribal Powwow will feature parades, dancing, drumming, storytelling, arts and crafts and food for sale. The Inter-Tribal Powwow is one of the largest in the region, and it is the only one presented on the grounds of a California mission. It draws participant from 15+ tribes, including the Diegueño tribe and Luiseño bands in San Diego County, as well as tribes from California, the Southwest and beyond.

The highlight of the powwow is the Grand Entry (staged at noon, 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM Saturday and at noon Sunday), in which dancers in traditional native dress enter the grounds in a parade formation. No pictures are allowed during the sacred entry, but the public is encouraged to join the parade by drumming, dancing and marching.

Throughout each day, men, women and youth dancers will participate in intertribal competition dancing (fancy shawl, jingle, grass, hoop and traditional styles) and drumming. Vendors will sell Indian arts and crafts, and food booths will sell burgers, hot dogs, Indian tacos, and fry bread.

2:00 PM Ballet: Swan Lake Ballet Arte presents Swan Lake, a timeless love story that mixes magic, tragedy, and romance into four acts. It features Prince Siegfried and a lovely swan princess named Odette.
