9:00 AM Fiesta de Reyes Cinco de Mayo Folklorico Festival Dancers from throughout Southern California and some from as far away as Sacramento and Las Vegas have competed for the past eight years in Old Town San Diego State Historic Park at the annual Fiesta de Reyes Folklórico Competition. This year the event, to be held over the Cinco de Mayo weekend, is expanding to include dance troupes from Mexico and throughout the Western United States.

The competition is free for the public to attend and will take place in the center of Old Town San Diego State Historic Park. Children and adult performances alternate throughout the day, from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM on Saturday, May 5, and 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM on Sunday, May 6. Live bands will take the stage in the afternoon until 9:00 PM on Saturday and 7:30 PM on Sunday. In addition, the state park will showcase children's activities throughout the day.

10:00 AM Cinco De Mayo Balboa Park The family-friendly fiesta includes Mexican-themed music and dance performances, colorful horseback riders, strolling mariachis, a fashion show of traditional Mexican dress, hands-on activity booths for kids, arts and crafts vendors, food trucks and more!

The event culminates with a 5:00 PM concert in Spreckels Organ Pavilion featuring crowd-favorite Jarabe Mexicano, accompanied by the SDSU School of Music Percussion Ensemble.

A variety of cuisines from some of San Diego's best food trucks will also be available throughout the day on the El Prado walkway. In addition, the Prado Restaurant will serve street tacos, margaritas and cerveza on their Garden Terrace from 12:30 PM to 5:00 PM. Panama 66 will offer food specials and Baja beers and wine.

11:00 AM Cinco de Mayo Old Town San Diego The 35th Annual Fiesta Old Town Cinco de Mayo will transform the historic Old Town area into the largest Cinco de Mayo celebration north of the border. This weekend celebration attracts over 100,000 people over the course of three days with its bustling mercado, non-stop music and live entertainment, lucha libre wrestling, and a huge display of lowriders and other autos.

Fiesta Old Town Cinco de Mayo will feature live entertainment with over 20 bands consisting of Latin rock, Norteńa, Conjunto Jarocho, Mariachi, Banda Sinaloense and more! Stroll through the iconic Lowrider Lane and be wowed by the unique paint jobs and car modifications that have become a fiesta favorite. Free activities for the children, such as face painting, arts and crafts and interactive educational elements. Visit the Ballet Folklorico competition with two days of historical performances.

12:00 PM Somali Family Service Annual Youth Summit This year Somali Family Service is collaborating with San Diego State University, YALLA SD, University of San Diego, and Helping Hand to engage the San Diego youth and community in a dialogue about the future, and where we are headed.

The theme of this year's Youth Summit is "Steps to Strides - Finding your path". The summit will aim towards bringing awareness to the importance of establishing a legacy, setting achievable goals to pursue, and navigating resources to best achieve those goals.

The Youth Summit will focus on significant topics to the youth of today—balancing academic life as well as their future professional life. The Youth Summit will also provide workshops for students administered by industry professionals who will give various workshops on the importance of staying engaged in their educational path - and the eventual transition into the workplace. A key focus of this Youth Summit is thinking larger than self. How to best serve and positively change not only ourselves and our communities - but the larger community and the world.

Please join us for a day of inspiration, motivation and change.

1:00 PM Chinese Brush Painting for Children SDCHM is offering a series of three Chinese Brush Painting classes taught by Instructor Sylvia Hwa. Students will make ink from an ink stick using the ancient Chinese technique of grinding the stick on an ink stone until smooth black ink is made. Using the ink on rice paper, students will learn how to paint flowers, trees, nature scenes and a variety of animals. This class's core objectives are to promote cultural appreciation, enhance observation skills and increase hand-eye motor skills.

2:00 PM - 4:00 PM Cinco de Mayo Pinata Workshop and Fiesta Celebrate Cindo de Mayo and join us for a fun afternoon of crafting! Learn to make your own pinata! Choose from a cactus, Frida or Llama design. This event is open to all ages!

We will also be having a "Pajamas and Pinatas" donation drive for children, for abandoned, orphaned and vulnerable children in Tijuana. Donation boxes will be placed around Flower Hill Promenade or bring your new pajama donation to the event. All sizes needed.

2:00 PM Chinese Renaissance Metal Engraving Seminar The SDCHM and the San Diego Chinese Art & Cultural Society will give a Renaissance Metal Engraving Seminar. Special guest artist Chien Cheng-Chen, the first metal engraver in Taiwan, will be joining us at SDCHM's Chuang Archive and Learning Center for this unique presentation. Cheng-Chen has been interviewed widely on Taiwan television networks regarding his work; he will teach the engraving process though a video and the use of his own pieces including creations with an engraver machine.

6:00 PM Talk with Dolores Huerta While many people have heard the phrase "Sí, se puede," or are acquainted with the history of the National Farmworkers Association (NFW) or United Farm Workers (UFW), most do not know these were direct results Dolores Huerta's organizing and activist efforts. Her legacy is an integral part of the history of American social justice movements and as the world continues to struggle against racial, gender, and environmental oppression, she is one of the guiding lights that can lead the way for future and current generations of activists who are working towards creating a more socially just and healthy world.

This event is open to UCSD students, staff, faculty, campus workers, and community members.

As part of Muir College's year long 50th anniversary celebration, we are honored to host renown civil rights and labor activist Dolores Huerta in dialogue with Lesly Figueroa, current UCSD AS president, as she shares her life experiences and wisdom centered around themes of environmental justice, gender, organizing and activism.
