10:00 AM Balboa Park PowWow The San Diego American Indian Health Center's Annual Balboa Park Pow Wow is a cultural event that showcases the heritage and traditions of American Indians. As a demonstration of the cultural and spiritual traditions, participants of all ages will be present from many American Indian Tribes, bands, and communities. Kumeyaay Bird Singers will open the event, as we are all guests in their homeland. Gourd Dancing will follow and then Grand Entry, which opens a day of Inter-Tribal Dancing. Well known American Indian Drum groups Sooner Nation and Coyote Canyon will provide the traditional music of the Pow Wow.

This year Saginaw Grant, revered elder, actor, and motivational speaker, will be present as Spiritual Advisor. On Saturday, Danza Azteca Calpulli Mexihca Aztec dancers will be our guests. This year we will honor Bobby Wallace for all his contributions to the community, and on Sunday, all mothers will be honored. Vendors will be selling handmade jewelry, pottery, basketry, and a variety of other crafts and wares. Food venders will be selling a variety of food items, including fry bread and Indian Tacos.

The Pow Wow will also feature a Healthy Eating and Active Living (HEAL) Zone that will include physical activities for youth, nutrition education, games, and a variety of information booths with materials focused on promoting healthy lifestyles. On the southwest corner of Park Boulevard and Presidents Way.

11:00 AM Gator By The Bay Zydeco, Blues & Crawfish Festival Emphasizing the the rollicking music, food and Mardi Gras spirit of Louisiana, San Diego's 16th annual Gator By The Bay is the largest, most authentic good times music, dance and culture festival in Southern California. Held Thursday, May 11 to Sunday, May 14 - Spanish Landing Park, across from San Diego International Airport, Gator By the Bay features four days of live music with over 100 musical acts and special performances on seven stages, shaded dance floors for non-stop dancing, cooking demos, dance lessons and 10,000 pounds of live crawfish brought in fresh from Louisiana for the biggest crawfish boil this side of the bayou.

Since its inception in 2001 the festival has grown to showcase not only Grammy winning Cajun and Zydeco artists directly from Louisiana, but also legendary Chicago and California blues artists, rockabilly and roots performers and award-winning salsa and Latin bands. The festival has become an annual must-do for enthusiasts of all ages.

Festival tickets range from $25 to $40, with discounts available for advance purchase and multiday passes. Children 17 and under are admitted free with a paid adult and kids can enjoy an activity area just for them.

2:00 PM Dance: Carmen and The Four Seasons Elizabeth Wistrich's one-act version of Carmen has been one of her most popular, critically acclaimed and in demand ballets. Created in 1988, danced to Georges Bizet's exhilarating score, the ballet tells the story of Carmen, a beautiful and sultry factory worker, set in 1820's Spain. Men are fascinated by her and will do almost anything for her love - including murder. Also on the program is a world premiere by Geoff Gonzalez to Vivaldi's most popular score - The Four Seasons. With detailed scenery and elaborate costumes by the great designer, David Heuvel, this dramatic story ballet never fails to leave an indelible impression.

2:00 PM Stage: Clybourne Park Palomar College stages Bruce Norris' follow-up to Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun. Act One takes place in 1959, as white community leaders anxiously try to stop the sale of a home to a black family. Act Two is set in the same house in the present day, as the now predominantly African-American neighborhood battles to hold its ground in the face of gentrification. Annie Hinton directs.

7:30 PM Music: The Mariachi Divas Founded in 1999 by trumpet player Cindy Shea, the Two Time Grammy Award Winning Mariachi Divas de Cindy Shea is a multicultural, all-female ensemble that continues to push and expand the scope of mariachi music. Since 2003, Mariachi Divas has been the official mariachi of the Disneyland Resort where they entertain audiences of all ages and backgrounds on a year-round basis. In addition to performing regularly at the Disneyland Resort and when they are not busy recording albums, Mariachi Divas and their music can be found in films, music videos, Hallmark greeting cards, and movie soundtracks a well as touring across the United States and Mexico.
