10:00 AM - 3:00 PM St. Jordi's Day Celebration & Independent Bookstore Day Warwick's will host La Jolla's 3rd annual Saint Jordi's Day festival celebration. Saint Jordi's Day is a day of books, roses, and romance and Warwick's is bringing it to La Jolla all the way from Barcelona.

Our celebration will feature live Spanish music, Spanish cuisine bites, a knight-costumed character and a children's story time at 12:30 PM. Saint Jordi is the Catalan name for Saint George, the patron saint of Catalonia. As legend has it, Saint Jordi slew a dragon to save a princess and then plucked a red rose for the princess from a rose bush which sprouted from the exact spot that the dragon's blood had spilled. To commemorate Saint Jordi's day, men and women in Barcelona take to the streets to buy and exchange books and roses for their sweethearts. More books are sold on this day in Barcelona than the entire rest of the year combined. Join Warwick's in celebration of this unique cultural tradition!

6:30 PM Music: Camarada Spirit, Struggle, Triumph Join Camarada in a night of music and poetry as they remember Jewish composers throughout history. Prepare to be mesmerized by Andrea Overturf, principal English horn of the San Diego Symphony Orchestra, in her first appearance with Camarada. Ms. Overturf is the first oboist in the history of The Juilliard School to graduate from the prestigious solo-intensive Artist Diploma Program. You will be charmed by her deep, rich sound in works by Alan Hovhaness and Arthur Honneger whose broad meaning behind one of his works ("an individual taking a stand against a oppressive crowd") gave the Nazi's motive to campaign against him and label him Jewish in 1933. This corroded his image, making him a widely unknown composer to this day. Other composers featured in the program—Gustav Mahler, Aaron Copland, George Gershwin, and Leo Smit—are well known Jewish composers whose works are performed and savored by audiences across the globe. The perseverance of all these composers to make music despite oppression is a true feat. History will come to life in Camarada's Spirit, Struggle, Triumph.

Romances flare and marriages explode when he begins reading the novel Anna Karenina and the scandalous lives of Tolstoy's characters become dangerously intertwined with the lives of his listeners.

Winner of the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Nilo Cruz' Anna in the Tropics is a steamy, lyrical plunge into the whirlpools of imagination and love. CJ Keith Directs.
