All Day Trinh Mai: That We Should Be Heirs Trinh Mai: That We Should Be Heirs That We Should Be Heirs encourages participants to engage in the lost art of letter writing as a method of alleviating burdens and promoting healing. By putting hand to paper and joining one another in this collective activity of personal letter writing, we can share in this intimate process of privately documenting the stories, hardships, and triumphs that connect us all. 8:30 AM National Celebration of Black Women 2019 will mark the 400th commemoration year since the first African captives arrived at the shore of Jamestown, Virginia in the year 1619.

National Celebration of Black Women was born out of a necessity to recognize the women in American history that emerged from slavery, defied the odds and came out victorious!

​On this day, March 2, 2019, during Women's History Month, black women are joining hands across the nation in celebration of our phenomenal ancestry and contributions in building America.

There will be a March starting at 8:30 AM from the corner of North Harbor Dr. and Park Ave to be followed by a celebration in Ruocco Park at 10:00 AM.

The once mighty demigod Maui guides her quest to become a master way-finder. Directed and choreographed by Francine Maigue.

2:00 PM Stage: The Fire in Me Asian Story Theater and Access Inc. present "The Fire in Me," a play about domestic violence in San Diego's Filipino community.

Based on interviews, the play explores the subject in the context of culture, immigration status and gender roles. Each performance includes merienda (Filipino snacks), the play, and a panel discussion with experts working in the field.

This project is supported by The San Diego Foundation and California Humanities, in community partnership with Philippine Consulate
San Diego County, and artistic collaboration with MaArte Theater Collective.

Due to mature content, recommended for ages 18 and up. Free performances at various San Diego Public Library locations.

2:30 PM Stage: Beyond Babel Beyond Babel is a new theatrical dance show created by Keone & Mari Madrid and Hideaway Circus. The production is inspired by the classic tale of Romeo & Juliet and current social stories from all over the world. The show is about the division of families, friends, and a community of people as authorities decide to build a wall between them. We follow two divinely linked lovers as they reconcile with the rising tensions of a populace cut in half. The show is set to a contemporary soundtrack and features a cast of twelve elite dancers. It also features large crochet backdrops, art installations, and yarn-based props created by artist London Kaye.

7:00 PM Los Angeles Balalaika Orchestra The Los Angeles Balalaika Orchestra consists of 40 talented musicians who are interested in Russian folk instruments and their unique sound. The Orchestra prepares new material each year and performs an annual full concert in Los Angeles and San Diego. Featured artists are brought by the Orchestra from Kiev, Moscow, or St. Petersburg, Russia, and also include world class artists who now live in the Southern California area. The concert will also feature traditional Russian folk dancers and the gifted soprano Anna Belaya. The orchestra's professional directors and arrangers are Iryna Orlova and Anatoliy Mamalyga. Both are graduates of the famed Ukrainian National Tchaikovsky Academy of Music formerly known as the Kiev State (Tchaikovsky) Conservatory.
