7:00 PM Opera: La Tragedie de Carmen San Diego Opera presents La Tragedie De Carmen (The Tragedy of Carmen). Gypsy Carmen is a sizzling seductress, but play with her and you will get burned. Naïve young soldier Don Jose falls for her, leaving his homespun sweetheart Micaela in pursuit of a life of crime and lust with Carmen and her band. But when Carmen callously drops him for Escamillo the strutting bullfighter, jealousy ignites and Don Jose is pushed to the brink. Passions intensify and burst into an emotional bonfire that threatens to destroy them all. In Peter Brook's gripping adaptation of Georges Bizet's opera Carmen, The Tragedy of Carmen brings us all of the intense emotion and gorgeous music, in a focused and distilled 90-minute production. 8:00 PM Poetry Brothel: Mystical Medicine Tour The Poetry Brothel is a unique and immersive poetry event that takes poetry outside classrooms and lecture halls and places it in the lush interiors of a bordello. Based in concept on the fin-de-siecle bordellos in New Orleans and Paris, many of which functioned as safe havens for fledgling, avant-garde artists, The Poetry Brothel's "Madame" presents a rotating cast of poets as "whores," each operating within a carefully constructed character, who impart their work in public readings, spontaneous eruptions of poetry, and most distinctly, as purveyors of private, one-on-one poetry readings in back rooms. For a small fee, all of the "poetry whores" are available for these sequestered readings at any time during the event. Of course, any true brothel needs a good cover; The Poetry Brothel's is an immersive cabaret, offering a full bar, live jazz, burlesque dancers, painters, and fortune-tellers, with newly integrated themes, performances, and installations at each event. This event will feature house band Gypsy Groove, burlesque beauties Luna Divine and Emeraude LaStarr, tarot reader Henley la Lune, featured reader David Matlin, and of course, your poetry whores. Evening wear and themed costumes are encouraged but not required. Age limit: 21+.

Admission/Cost: $25 - $75
