Tasende Gallery

tasende gallery

In 1966 Jose Tasende opened Galeria Tasende in Acapulco, Mexico, and immediately began working with the artist Jose Luis Cuevas. In 1979 Tasende moved the gallery to the United States and opened Tasende Gallery in La Jolla, California expanding the gallery's offerings to include Giacomo Manzł, Marino Marini, Matta, Henry Moore, Lynn Chadwick, Isamu Noguchi and Mark di Suvero. The gallery's inaugural exhibition by Giacomo Manzł was first presented at the Phoenix Art Museum, San Diego Museum of Art and the Blanden Memorial Art Gallery.

Presently, the gallery acquires prominent large-scale works for public and private collections. In addition, organizing traveling exhibitions for its artists has always been a main occupation at Tasende Gallery.

Despite the inevitable controversy associated with placing sculpture in public settings, throughout its history Tasende Gallery has placed on loan large-scale sculpture to institutions, cities and special projects. Tasende Gallery has collaborated on public sculpture projects with the Salk Institute, City of San Diego, the City of Beverly Hills, Chicago's Mile of Sculpture, Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego and The Timken Museum of Art.
